Pershing Square
The Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance is dedicated to playing a catalytic role in accelerating cures for cancer by enabling the pursuit of the most innovative and advanced cancer research and by facilitating collaborations between science and business.
The Pershing Square Foundation’s commitment to be a philanthropic catalyst inspired long-time Sohn speaker Bill Ackman to partner with The Sohn Conference Foundation to accelerate cures for cancer. The partnership of these two foundations leverages their respective resources, their investigators, and their opportunities to exponentially impact the field of cancer research.
The Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance sponsors the signature Pershing Square Sohn Prize for Young Investigators in Cancer Research, which provides young New York-based scientists the freedom to take risks and pursue their boldest research at a stage when traditional funding is lacking. In the quest for cures, the Prize will accelerate the collaboration between academia and industry. Prize winners receive $200,000 a year for up to three years, and the Alliance has already named twelve winners since 2014.
Greenlight Capital
Year after year, David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital regales Sohn Investment Conference audiences with his prophetic conceptualizations of major wall-street trends. What is less well-known is that he has also rocked the philanthropic world from the Sohn stage. He decided to become a Sohn partner when he dedicated the proceeds from one of his great stock predictions to the Sohn Conference Foundation.
Einhorn’s inspiration and investment led the Foundation to create a first-of-its kind palliative care program at Hackensack University Medical Center, overseen by the great Dr. Michael Harris. The idea was simple, yet desperately underfunded: retain professionals dedicated to alleviating the physical pain children with cancer endure.
Thanks to David’s generosity and partnership with Sohn, Hackensack’s children now have these services and the Sohn palliative-care program serves as a model to children’s hospitals around the nation.
